We at APS understand that for many people it can be difficult to admit that they need help with a mental health or substance abuse condition. There can be a tendency to think that these conditions indicate personal failure or weakness. Unlike physical conditions, many people find it more difficult to reach out for help with emotional difficulties.
Research shows that an estimated 26% of Americans, one in four adults, suffer from a mental disorder during any given year and that one fifth of school age children are also affected by these conditions.
Most people with mental disorders continue to function normally in their daily lives. However, mental disorders are the leading cause of disability in the United States for individuals age 15-44. Many people suffer from more than one mental disorder at a given time.
If you are experiencing feelings that suggest the presence of a mental health condition, seek help as soon as possible for an evaluation by a trained professional.
